Nanshimengou Fm
Type Locality and Naming
It was named by Fu Lipu et al in 1983. The type section is located at Nanshimengou, Zhouqu County, Gansu Province.
Synonym: (南石门沟组)
Lithology and Thickness
The formation, 69 m thick, consists of dark gray, gray green phyllite intercalated with limestone, thin-bedded limestone or limestone lenses.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The formation rests conformably onto the underlying Hongshuigou Fm (Hongshuigoukou Fm)
Upper contact
The formation rests conformably below the overlying Xiaputonggou Fm of earliest Devonian
Regional extent
The lithology and the thickness of the formation vary considerably. In the east part of its exposed area, it is dominated by clastic rock in Zhouqu and is 37 m thick at the Xiaolianggou section. In west, it is mainly composed of carbonate rock with increased thickness, 177 m thick at Yanglugou, 117 m at Zuokuowu in Têwo County, and 110 m at Xiawunagou.

It yields anthozoa Squameofavosites sokolovi, Emmonsiella saaminicus, Favosites fungites, Laceripora dictyosa, Denaphyllum sp., Charsakia sp. etc.; brachiopods Atrypoidea sp., Gannania sp., Retziella latiplicata; conodonts Ozarkodina crispa, Ligonodina elegans, trilobite Encrinurus sp.; cephalopods Xiaoxiangoceras sp., Heyuncunoceras sp., etc.
